EDITORIAL Development Works! “It pays to invest in change”
How many times have you asked yourself, “What will it change?”, “What difference does it make that I …” “Does it matter?” Pochi Tamba Well, our small efforts matter. They make a world of a difference, and if you must hear it from someone else, then take it from me. Development works!

Globally, a lot of positive things have happened thanks to the concerted efforts of individuals in small regions of the world.
The number of children who die before reaching their fifth birthday fell by half between 1960 and 2001. In the same period, the number of adults who could not read fell from 53% to 27%. And over the last twenty years, the number of children attending primary school in the world has gone from 8 out of 10 to 9 out of 10. And that is not all. In the 60s, we in developing countries could expect to live only 46 years. Today, we can expect to see 64! Tell me efforts make no difference!

Look around you, at all the small efforts you offered the community, your school, or your family, and dare say nothing changed. Is true to say the clean up campaign you carried out with some friends downtown has not positively changed the face of your city? And all that talk with youths on human rights and child abuse? Look around you and ask yourself if people have not become more aware and alert at what constitutes their rights and what does not? It pays to invest in change and you do not need me to tell you that.

Am positive that if you search further, you will only see more signposts reading DEVELOPMENT WORKS! So whenever you have a chance to contribute your bit to the improvement of your social, economic and political environment, do not hesitate. Do it with your guts, for you are definitely contributing to the development of the world. That is the idea behind this third edition of INSPIRE. If you can make it better, then destiny has put you there to do just that. Go on, brave the doubts and challenges and change it. Pochi Tamba
